I am independent.

This means a lot to me.  The people I need to satisfy are the families who entrust their loved ones into my care.  I work for them and not for a manager, shareholders or indeed a large faceless corporation.

I am qualified.

You may be surprised to learn that the funeral industry is a non-regulated one.  Anyone can set up and purport to be a funeral director.  I have studied and passed examinations, as a result I have achieved the industry ‘Gold Standard’ – The Diploma in Funeral Directing – issued by the National Association of Funeral Directors.  I have held this qualification since 1998.  I also hold a fellowship from the Institute of Civil Funerals and have previously served on their Council.

I provide a personal service.

I attend personally to every aspect of your funeral service from the smallest detail, for example the choice of flowers, to overseeing the complicated process of repatriation to anywhere in the world. I can arrange a funeral as individual as the person the service is for.  Everyone is unique and I believe that their funeral should be.

I am accredited by the good funeral guide

It is with great pride that I am able to display the logo of the Good Funeral Guide. Getting this recommendation for me is probably the greatest achievement of my career. A look at their website will confirm that I am currently their only ‘recommended funeral director’ in the whole of Tyne and Wear and indeed Northumberland.  The review I have been given I feel captures my ethos and beliefs perfectly. Please take a moment to click the link on the logo below and read it.

Why Choose Liddell Funeral Services

My maternal grandfather, Thomas Turner was an undertaker, he owned sawmills and a joinery business in Beckermet on the west coast of England.  After World War 2 the family settled in Whitey Bay.  He is pictured here with  his wife and their daughter, my mother.
